Congratulation to both the infants and year 3/4 gymnastics teams who both won their competitions.
The year 3/4 team performed really well to beat off strong competition from the other schools and the infants team worked together to perform an excellent floor routine. A huge well done also goes to Jenny in year 6 who has worked really hard with the year 2 children choreographing and teaching them the routine.
Mr Davis was really proud of all the children who have worked really hard to get to a very high level of gymnastics ability.

Both teams will now be going on to represent West Norfolk in the county competition at the Norfolk School Games in June.

We had 10 new chicks by the time we left school today, all the children enjoyed looking at the newly hatched chicks and watching them dry out and grow into fluffy chicks.

The eggs arrived from the Happy Chick Company yesterday and at around 10:00pm tonight the first chick hatched out. I'm sure when we check in on them in the morning there will be others hatched out too. Watch this space for "chick update"!

We have once again teamed up with West Norfolk Citizens Advice Bureau who are coming in on Wednesday 2nd May at 1:00pm to offer us a Budgeting for Beginners workshop. The session will last for 2 hours and will be informal & fun with the focus being on discussion, quizzes & learning. Please do come along & join us. I would like to express my admiration for the children who attended my talk/reading and the teacher who prepared them. Not only did the children have great enthusiasm and many good questions to ask, but they were also courteous, attentive, and receptive to what I had to say. The girls and boys were truly wonderful ambassadors for their school. It was a real pleasure for me to meet and talk with them.

The Kings Lynn Soroptimists held their annual Public Speaking Competiotion on Thursday 15th March. There were 14 teams from 8 schools and everyone had a really nice night. Well done to all the children and especially the 3 representatives from Eastgate.

The choir are having a fantastic time at Wembley Arena, they have all received T-shirts and glow sticks. They have just been introduced to the audience and are awaiting the start.

Pheonix achieved 100% attendance, they will be having a Pizza and dvd afternoon on Tuesday.

Pheonix are well on the way to being the first class to achieve 100% attendance and so win a pizza and dvd afternoon. I have tried really hard to persuade them to have tomorrow off....but no takers.

Just a quick note to say thank you for all your kind donations for today's non-uniform day. We have raised £211.00 which we will put towards the cost of future trips.

As we have the Mart Special dinner on Friday 10 February, the dinners have changed next week as follows: Monday will be salmon nuggets and chips, Wednesday's pudding will be cheesecake/cold pudding. The Mart Special on Friday is hot dogs and toffee cream tart.

The dinner will be pork casserole on Tuesday this week, not sweet and sour pork

I have been approached by children in Owls class (Year 6) to ask if we could stop the afternoon playtime as they felt it was making it hard for them to come back into class and settle to their work. (This is not a joke.)
I spoke to the teachers and they have agreed to the Owls suggestion so as from next week the children will have a toilet brake in the afternoon but not a playtime.

The dinner on Tuesday this week will be sweet and sour chicken and not chicken korma as on the menu. Apologies for the change.

After the choir's successful debut at Christmas singing in St Margarets Church in King's Lynn to a select audience, the choir at Eastgate will be performing at Wembley Arena on 25th February along with other schools to raise money for "Voice in a Million" helping children in need. We will travel down on Saturday morning and not get back until the early hours of Sunday morning! Songs being learnt include those from Robbie Williams and the Blues Brothers with quite a lot inbetweeen!!

In May we will be performing in King's Lynn with the famous American Group "The Drifters".

What next? The Royal Albert Hall maybe!!

The Eastgate drama club are performing Aladdin on Tuesday 6th December at 1.30pm and 6.30pm. Doors open at 1.15pm for the afternoon matinee and at 6.15pm for the evening performance.

The play is suitable for young children as it is a traditional pantomime.

Please note that we are once again holding whole school reading cafes on Tuesday 13th December. These will take place from 1pm until 2pm. The school will close at 2pm after the reading cafes when all children can go home. Any children not collected will stay in two classrooms until parents come to collect them. We had a fantastic day out at Norwich City.
Aiden Mason was chosen to be a mascot for the day, he met all the players before the match, received a replica kit and came out of the tunnel with the players as they came onto the pitch for the start of the match. Mrs Hothersall was very jealous.
The rest of us look around the grounds before it was open to the public and played games in the study centre. Then we all watched Norwich beat QPR 2 - 1.
3 children were chosen from each of the KS2 classes, these children were identified by the teachers as always working hard and trying their best.
Aiden's name was put forward by 4 teachers, well done Aiden.

We collected nearly 8,000 vouchers. We will now have lots more equipment including plenty of scales for the cookery club and to use in class.

Great News
We have collected enough vouchers to purchase several more sets of scales for the children to use in cookery club and in class. We now need plenty more to purchase new chopping boards and other items. So keep collecting. Please ask family and friends to help.

Owls have already secured themselves a trip to McDonalds at the end of this half term with their 100% attendance. Both Magpies and Pheonix have 100% attendance so far this week, looks like it could be an expensive half term.

As part of our commitment to reading we are launching a reading café at Eastgate. The aim is for every teacher to share a short story with their class and follow this with a craft activity where everyone can join in the fun.

This project is designed to promote reading in an exciting way. We are hoping that by sharing stories with their parents it will promote reading to our children. The craft activities have been designed so that you can repeat them at home if you should wish to.

We need your support so please try to join us at school on:

Friday 21st October from 2.00pm until 2.55pm in your child’s classroom.

All family members are welcome , including younger siblings. If you have several children in different classes and are wondering how you can be with each we suggest you invite grandparents etc.

Refreshments will be available from 2.55pm in the halls or you may wish to take your children home early.

We are planning to repeat this event as a whole school on a half termly basis with individual classes hosting additional reading cafes. A timetable of these events will be sent out before half term.

Don't forget that Mr Howard runs a choir on Tuesday lunchtimes,and a guitar club on Wednesday lunchtimes. Remember to bring your guitar and your voices!! (Only limited numbers but the children know who they are!!)

Don't forget to come into the School Office to book an appointment for Parents Evenings. These take place during week commencing Monday 10 October 2011.

2 children have been awarded the new Headteacher award, this award is for children who are polite, helpful and a role model for the school.
The first award was presented to Jake Wenham in Canaries for being a positive role model for the school. Jake always works hard, is polite and well mannered at all times. Well done Jake.
The second award was presented to Tyler Pegg in Eagles, Tyler goes out of his way to hold doors open for adults, he greets all staff with a lovley smile and a hello. Well done Tyler.

I am hoping to hold a One Stop Parent Shop on Wednesday 9th November 2011 in school at 9am until 11.30am This is run by Action for Children and looks like it will be very enjoyable and informative. it is open to all parents, carers and even grandparents.
I will be supplying coffee, tea and biscuits and will be there to join you as will Mrs Jane Gibbs.
It will depend on the interest we receive and I will be sending more details out shortly.

We have had a visit from the film crew at CBeebies today. They have been filming some of our children from the Infant year groups. During their interviews they have been asking the children about their favourite CBeebies characters and getting the children's views on the CBeebies programmes. So watch future episodes of CBeebies and see if you can spot some of our Eastgate stars.

The Short Breaks Pathfinder programme has been working to transform services for disabled children and their families for more than two years. A wide range of short break services have been developed or extended, and they have now developed a parent-friendly website all about short break services for disabled children in Norfolk. You can search for services based on location, type of disability, type of short break, age of child and referral method.

Year 5/6 children presented their Australian topic work to parents on Tuesday 9th November. They created Corrobores dances, sang Waltzing Matilda, played didgeridoo’s and performed some traditional Dreamtime stories. During the day, the children made ANZAC biscuits and served them to parents.

Lisa Christensen, Director of Norfolk Children’s Services visited Eastgate on Tuesday 2nd November to observe a PATH's (Promoting alternative thinking strategies) lesson in year 6 Owls. This is a new project which is being piloted in Norfolk, and Eastgate was chosen as a school that has demonstrated outstanding practice, delivering it to the children. Mr Jim Rymer, PATH's coach along with other visitors joined Lisa Christensen and they have contacted us since their visit and commented that they were very impressed with the warmth of the reception they all received as well as being impressed by the quality of the teaching and learning which they observed. They also thanked all the staff who volunteered to be observed and said that they were without exception excellent. They also wished us to thank all the children who's behaviour was outstanding and a joy to watch.

On Thursday 16th September, 12 year 6 children were chosen to participate in the Tour of Britain activities on the Tuesday Market place. The children learnt how to change a cycle tyre, ride a bike and compete on a static bike. They also watched the official start of the race. Jessica, Simon, Alex and Mason won gold medals for the go-ride race. A good time was had by all.

Eastgate took part in the Norfolk Key Steps Gymnastics competition on Monday 24th May, at Easton College. The team of 8 children performed various sequences and stances. They won the competition and now have a place in the final in Ipswich on 24th June. We wish them lots of luck.

Welcome to Eastgate

We would like to welcome two new teaching staff members to Eastgate, who will be joining us after the Easter holiday.

Mr Vincent Martinez will be joining us from Brancaster Primary School and will be taking over the role of class teacher from Mr Stanley.

Also Mrs Trisha Mills will be joining us and will be teaching part-time alongside Mrs Lake in a year 5/6 class.

We hope you will join us in making them very welcome in their new positions.

The football team put in an excellent performance to beat Grimston 3-2. We had many great attacking moves but were unlucky to go 0-1 early on. After Lukas equalised we again went behind just before half time with the score 1-2. However during the second half the team rallied and played some wonderful football allowing Lukas and Brooklyn to score making the full time score 3-2.

Eastgate School has been awarded the High Quality PE Award for outstanding teaching and children's learning in their PE lessons in school. This Award was launched in Norfolk during 2009 and is only awarded to those schools who can demonstrate that they are not only delivering the entitlement agenda of 2 hours a week but that it is also of high quality.

We are very proud of achieving this ward, and we can continue to deliver high quality PE lessons to ensure that the children of our school are receiving and achieving the best.

We would like to thank all parents and relatives of our children who attended our assemblies today, they were very successful and we would like to thank everyone involved. We would also like to offer our sincere apologies for the mix up in timings and hope this didn’t cause too much inconvenience to anyone. We will be running similar assemblies in the future and will send out details nearer the time.

On Saturday 17th October the boys football team took part in the Whistle Trophy tournament at North Wootton School. The boys played fabulously and came a respectable 3rd - the highest performance by a boys team in a tournament in recent times.
The side was captained by Lukas and Jack. The highlight of the day was an excellent goal from Ross, who produced an excellent header to a wonderful corner kick by Kieran. The whole team deserves praise for their performance - especially Deirunas whose goalkeeping was fearless.

On Saturday 10th October 2009 the girls football team took part in a tournament at North Wootton School. The children, many of whom were playing for the first time, played fantastically. Samantha captained the side and led them well.

On Thursday 21st May year 3/4 gymnasts from Eastgate Primary School represented West Norfolk in the county gymnastics finals in Norwich. We really enjoyed the competition with Jess, Millie and Alfie doing the floor elements routine and Alex, Rebecca and John doing the body management routine. Libby (who attends Lynnsport Gymnastics) came and did a display routine.

The team came second and Millie had the third highest individual score. We would all like to thank Mr Davis and Kirstie for coaching us and taking us.

Today we have to say goodbye to Mr Bone. He has worked at Eastgate for 9 years and has brought much success to the school in that time.
Mr Bone presented the school with new cooking equipment that will be able to be used in classrooms.
Mr Bone said, ”The time has passed very quickly at Eastgate. I have enjoyed working with over 800 children through the school in that time and having the chance to work with and get to know many parents and families. I will miss the daily contact with the children and working with the fantastic team of people we have at Eastgate. In the time I have been lucky enough to be the Headteacher I have seen children improve their achievement and learning and make the atmosphere in the school such a happy one.”

We said goodbye to Mrs Guyan today. She has left to work in a specialist unit based at St Michael's School in South Lynn.
We wish her all the best in her new post.
Mrs Guyan was presented with a watch along with many cards and wishes of farewell.

The football team defeated Greyfriars by 3 goals to 1. The team played really well, especially our goalie - who was named man of the match for his wonderful saves which played a major part in the win.
After Greyfriars went ahead in the first half, Eastgate bounced back in the second half with a fabulous free kick from Benas to level the score. Then James played a geat ball to Lucas to score putting Eastgate ahead. The final goal by Jack sealed the win as the Eastgate defence held firm.
Well done to the whole team.

On Tuesday 10th February, children from year 3/4 took part in a netball festival at Lynnsport. The children played against teams from across West Norfolk. The children had a great day ... learning lots about the game of Netball.

Eastgate Community Primary school have been promoting healthy eating this week, by providing all children with a healthy breakfast. PE Co-ordinator, Rebekah Desborough organised the week by writing to local supermarkets asking for donations. Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s and Morrison’s kindly donated products to run the event, which was a great success.

Amy Ranger, Community support officer from Tesco came into school and demonstrated the preparation of a variety of exotic fruits and children tasted them. Children thoroughly enjoyed sampling a healthy breakfast and are much more knowledgeable as to why we should start the day with breakfast.

The Eastgate football team took part in the Football in the Community 5-a-side tournament at Carrow Road. Teams from across Norfolk competed.
The children played really well against some very good opposition to come 3rd.
The tournament saw the first use of the new school football strip.

After almost nine years Mr. Bone will be leaving Eastgate at the end of this term in April. Mr. Bone will be joining the Norfolk Advisory Service as a primary development adviser. This will involve him working principally in West and North Norfolk working with a number of schools and teachers.

“ Time at school is precious and passes very quickly, mind you if my Mum had told me when I was 5 years old that I was going to still be at school over fifty years later I am not sure what I would have thought!”

“I know that the governors will do their very best to appoint a new Headteacher who deserves to be the head of such a special group of children and people.”

At the end of a very busy last week of term which had the Drama Club production, Infant's nativity, Carols and Readings at St. John's church and Christmas parties for the children we all gathered in the hall to say farewell to Mrs Gough. Mrs Gough started work at Eastgate in 1986 as a 'dinner lady' when the school was St. James Girls and Infants and has in that time has done over 4000 lunchtime duties in sunshine, rain, hail, sleet and most other varieties of English weather. Louise from Class R gave Wendy Gough some flowers, Josh from Year 5 gave her a card signed by all the children and staff at Eastgate, Kristine from Year 3 gave her a bottle of something sparkling and Tyrell from Year 6 gave Wendy a letter and vouchers from Norfolk County Council in recognition of her service. Mr. Bone thanked Mrs Gough for her service and said he would have look all over the world to find another Mrs Gough.

On Friday we held a 'Grass Skirts and Loud Shirts' non-uniform day to raise money for Children in Need. Many of the children and staff dressed up and everyone had a great time. We managed to raise £250 for Children in Need. A big thsnk you to everyone who took part.

The children took part in a football tournament at North Wootton Junior School. They were semi-finalists after putting in one of the best performances by an Eastgate team in recent years, pulling off wins against West Winch and Greyfriers, after goals by Benas and James.
The whole team did excellently and a fantastic performance by Kieran in goal made him Mr Davis' player of the tournament.

On Friday 24th October we held a fancy dress disco to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The football team played their first league match of the season against Grimston at 'The Walks'. After being 0-1 down at half time the team had to dig deep to come back and win the match 3-1 with Jack scoring 2 goals and James scoring 1.
The team played fantastically, working together well. At the back the team was solid and Kieran kept really well, having been called up late because of injury to Kaine.
Our attacking play was especially good during the second half with all the midfielders and forwards linking together.

Children from years 5 & 6 spent the afternoon at 'The Park High School' taking part in a science challenge. They were competing for the Dow Trophy. The children had to complete several different experiments which included a chemical reaction, electrical conductivity and building a self-powered buggy.
The children worked really hard and were a credit to the school.

The Eastgate football team took part in the Whistle Trophy. The tournament was played at North Wootton School on Saturday morning.
The team played really well, playing together for the first time. We look forward to a great season ahead.

On 2nd October a group of year 6 children took part in a skipping workshop in the afternoon then children ranging from year 1 to year 6 (and some of their parents) took part in an after school skipping club. To view the photos go to the picture galleries here.

The year 6 children spent a fun weekend at Kingswood residential centre from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th September.
They took part in many varied activities ranging from rock pooling on the beach to zip wire, fencing to go-carting.
Although there was some wet sunshine when the children arrived on Friday (Mr Davis doesn't believe it ever rains at Kingswood - it's always wet sunshine!!!) the weather cleared up and the rest of the weekend saw good weather.
Mr Davis would like to give a huge thaks to Miss Cossey, Mr Mann and Mrs Germaney, who all accompanied the trip.

On Monday 19 May, children from Eastgate School went to KES to take part in an afternoon of fun sports in honour of Dame Kelly Holmes’ visit.
In her speech at the KES presentation evening, Dame Kelly Homes commented on how successful the afternoon was and on the good links between KES and it's feeder schools.

Another fantastic performance by the girls football team gave them another win. This time they played in high temperatures and extreme heat yet kept working throughout and won against Gaywood Junior School by 2 goals to 1. Amber scored both goals and had great support from Raquel and Lydia who both had chances at goal.
The Defence performed really well as a unit to keep out most threats on the Eastgate goal. Chloe pulled off some excellent saves to keep out the good shots from Gaywood. The whole team deserve praise for their commitment, teamwork and perseverence. They finished the season with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses in their league matches - an excellent result.

The girls football team performed outstandingly to beat Grimston School 1-0. Amber scored the winning goal - and all there were more chances for her, Raquel and Lydia. Stunning work from the defence closed down all chances by Grimston.
Mr Davis commended the entire team for their hard work and especially for the teamwork they displayed. We look forward to seeing them in the tournament next week.

On Wednesday 19th March 2008, the drama club performed their production of 'Norman's Tempest'.
The production was written by Luke Goold and directed by Luke Goold and Mrs Scott. They raised money for 'The Royal National Lifeboat Institute'.

On Friday 14th March we held our Easter discos. Much fun was had by all, with dance competitions, karaoke and general dancing. Thanks go to all the teachers and parents who helped at the discos.

Children from the drama club performed a selection of songs at the 'Schools Make Music' concert. The concert took place at the Corn Exchange in Tuesday Market Place.
