This building, which was founded in 1911, retains its traditional style. The School site is ideally placed for using many town and community resources, we work with the King Edward the Seventh Cluster of schools and the College of West Anglia and use St James' Swimming Pool.
As required a Home/School Agreement Statement operates as of September 1999 and will be re-issued each year for new pupils and revised every three years. The next revisions will be September 2008 and September 2010. Parents and carers are consulted through questionnaires, parents' evenings and the opportunity to make appointments to see staff as required.
All our classes are arranged in mixed ability groups. The three infant classes in Key Stage One are all single age group classes. We have close links with Highgate Infants school and we reserve up to 15 places each September for year 2 children from Highgate to join our year 2 children when they join year 3. In the junior classes of Key Stage Two there are three parallel classes of mixed year 3 and year 4 children and three parallel classes of mixed year 5 and year 6. In years 5 and 6, children are placed in ability groups for Maths and English. Pupils may work at times with teachers other than their own class teachers.
The school has active links with our cluster secondary school King Edward the Seventh (KES) who have excellent sports sports links with us and close liaison for those year 6 pupils transferring to KES. We also enjoy technology links with the College of West Anglia and participate in the Technology Challenge at Park High School each year. Some of our pupils also transfer to Springwood High School.
