Eastgate Primary School: Brochure
Brochure - Charging and Remissions Policy

The governors of the School have reviewed the policy for charges for school activities issued by LEA and DCSF re the Government’s Education Act 1988.  The section of these documents which directly affect this school at present are as follows:

a)         No charge will be made for school trips undertaken within school hours.  However, voluntary contributions are welcomed in order to make such trips viable.  No pupil will be omitted from such a trip should his/her parents be unwilling to make such a contribution.  The number of school trips undertaken during the school year will be to some extent dependant on the contributions made to support them.

b)         If residential trips are arranged outside school hours, charges will be made to cover the cost of transport, board and lodgings, materials and equipment, non-teaching staff costs and teachers providing the optional extra activity.  Charges must not exceed the cost of the visit.

c)         Tuition of violin and cello (by peripatetic music teachers) will be in groups and is at present free of charge.  This will include teacher-led after school orchestra.  The school reserves the right to make a nominal charge for such tuition.

d)         No charge will be made for cooking ingredients or handwork materials, unless a parent has indicated in advance a wish to receive a finished product.  Any charge then made would be the actual cost of the materials.

e)         Residential weekend trips will be supported by the school within existing resources and will be reviewed annually where a subsidy will be agreed and notified to parents.

f)          The school may charge for after school activities/clubs to meet the costs of coaches/teachers providing activity.

g)         Charges may be made to recover the costs of breakages (eg windows) or library books if this is a result of behaviour in breach of the schools published discipline policy.
