The school Rewards, Behaviour and Discipline Policy was written following consultation with parents and outlines the way we reward children and manage incidents of less good behaviour, including dealing with incidents of bullying.
A parents' leaflet has been prepared which summarises the main features of the policy. A copy of this is available from the office. In brief we seek to share, with parents and carers, the responsibility for the children in our care. We expect children to take an increasing responsibility for their own actions and behaviour so that they can make the most of their learning opportunities.
All children are in the care of a class teacher who has responsibility for their well being. Children are taught about personal safety through class lessons and PHSE lessons, covering “stranger danger”, water safety, electrical safety, substance abuse, road safety and sun awareness.
We control movement about the school, supervise children at play and encourage sensible independence. We regulate the life of the school to promote a safe and civilised environment so that the rules we do have relate to the health, safety and well being of all.
Good behaviour and work is praised and encouraged. Children earn Excellence Stamps, Merit Certificates and Headteacher's Certificates. Each class chooses a ‘person of the week' every week who are announced in assembly on Mondays and children with 50 excellence stamps have a leaf with their name added to the Tree of Excellence in the Hall.
The school policy clearly defines our graded procedure for dealing with unacceptable behaviour from minor misconduct to behaviour which may ultimately result in exclusion. Parents are consulted and the leaflet outlines the process and how to complain or appeal.
